미국 매사추세츠 공과 대학의 기관지 MIT Technology Review가 지난해 실적에 근거한 "50 Smastest Companies"(세계에서 가장 혁신적인 50개 기업)의 랭킹 2016년판을 발표.
이 랭킹은 중요한 이노베이션을 일으킨 기업에 초점이 맞춰졌고 작년까지와 달리 올해부터는 모바일 인기가 끝나면서 많은 순위가 변화되고 있다. 1위는 아마존(전년 13위)으로 클라우드 기반의 음성 어시스턴트 서비스 Alexa를 채용한 Amazon Echo/Dot/Tap과 Amazon Web Services 등이 높게 평가되어 1위로 선출.
2위는 중국의 최대 검색 엔진을 제공하는 Baidu(바이두,전년 21위), 3위는 전기 자동차로 유명한 테슬라 모터스가 차지.
IT 관련 분야에서는 8위에 알파벳(전년 12위), 10위에 화웨이(신규 진입), 12위에 엔비디아(전년 28위), 15위에 페이스북(전년 29위), 20위에 텐센트(전년 7위), 26위에 마이크로소프트(전년 48위), 38위에 라인(전년 37위), 45위에 IBM(전년 46위), 46위에 스냅챗(전년 47위), 49위에 인텔(신규 진입)이 랭크됐고 지난해 16위에 올랐던 애플은 올해 순위에서 삭제됐다.
